Composer/performer Park Jiha‘s music blends classical minimalism and improvised music with traditional Korean instruments such as the Piri (double reed bamboo flute), Saenghwang (bamboo mouth organ) and Yanggeum (hammer dulcimer). Skillfully combining the instrumentation and complex expression of traditional Korean music with a range of contemporary forms and sounds, Park Jiha has established herself on the international music scene in recent years.
Her new solo album “The Gleam,” which is in the vein of solo works made since the release of Philos, was released in February 2022 via Glitterbeat and features an even more mature sound inspired by the movements of light during the day. A journey in its own right, it is already critically acclaimed.
In 2022, a live improvisation is scheduled to be recorded for the BBC in collaboration with British artist Roy Claire Potter, to be released on CAFE OTO’s OTOROKU imprint.
