Robert Henke is an artist specialised in the field of audio-visual installations, music and performance. With a strong background in engineering and a fascination for technology, Henke considers the creation of his working tools as well as the algorithms that operate them to play a crucial role in the creative process.
His working materials are sounds and images, environmental recordings, photography and light; transformed, rearranged and modulated by mathematical rules that act in real time.
Henke focuses his research on the exploration of spaces, both virtual and physical. Many of his works are designed paying particular attention to the unique and individual properties of each location. Monolake, his most enduring music project, is still considered an icon of the club culture that spread through Berlin in the period immediately following the fall of the Wall.
Henke is also one of the main creators of the popular Ableton Live software, which has completely redefined the performance aspect of electronics.
